Well educated. Recently retired post graduate engineer, Much travelled both for work and pleasure. Recently returned to "Gods Country" after living and working away for over 40 years.
Moved back to Yorkshire after death of late wife, just before full lockdown was imposed.I was really looking forward to joining local walking clubs and meeting new people, not possible of course.
However new house needed extensive renovation so jumped in with both feet and have now completed around 90% of the planned work.
Lockdown easing now and believe its now time to do some work on another long term project, ME
I am actively trying to rediscovered my lifetime love of walking and hiking, and recently discovered love of sailing, particular around the Malaysian and Thai islands.
I love cooking and eating Asian food. I read all the time,couldn't live without my kindle. I have a totally eclectic taste in music, from Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull to Pavarotti, Andrea Boccelli and Santana, to name just a few
Like most people I had gained a few pounds during lockdown but now I am back into the gym most days actively striving to get myself back in condition to allow me to sustain an active and healthy lifestyle.
Truly believe in a phrase I first heard only recently: "Growing older is inevitable, growing up is entirely optional." Eloquently describes me and my overall philosophy.

I really believe that a real partnership/friendship is the foundation and essential beginning to a well balanced emotional and physical relationship..I am looking for that special lady who: looks and feels equally as happy in classic evening wear or wet/muddy walking gear, who is comfortable in high end restaurants or country pubs. Who is at home lounging around indoors with just each other for company but is equally as happy down the pub with a few friends.
I wish had a penny for every time I have read or heard “I am totally happy in my own skin or company” well I think we all found that a little tiresome during lock down. I for one found that I missed the joy of discussion and perhaps informed gentle disagreement on a whole range of topics.
I miss having really good company for great weekends away, be they in the UK or further a field. I find myself really surprised, that after travelling for work and pleasure for so many years, I miss the simple shared joy of waking up to different sites, smells and environments, and the pleasure of jointly planning the day ahead.
Above all though, I suppose I am simply looking for someone special to engage with, feel comfortable with and enjoy the simple pleasures of life with, like a walk, discussing a good read, or a good film or indeed a recently eaten, good meal.
Perhaps most importantly, that special someone to cuddle and snuggle up to at the end of the day, having a glass of fine wine and discussion around the pressing matters of the day with, i.e. looking for a special lady who will have my back, as I would have hers.
All of the above being said, and perhaps as equally important ,that special someone must have a fantastic, hopefully irreverent, sense of humour, and the ability to see the funny side in everything
