About him
I was a nerdy Joe-90 as a boy with a curious and lively mind; voraciously reading anything connected with the natural world. I was profoundly influenced by Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and co-founded SAGE - Schools Action Group for the Environment - where we collected and recycled newspapers from households around our school using a donated electric milk-float.
I was brought up in the Chilterns and spent endless hours exploring its woods, farms and country lanes on my bike. I have a Brompton e-bike which I keep in the back of the car for when the occasion arises. Forty years ago I became a member of HF Holidays and have been on countless walking holidays both in the UK and abroad. It would be wonderful to share both these passions with another person
As a consequence of inheriting quirky and idiosyncratic parents I fell in love with the Mediterranean way of life; I even have an allotment where I grow everything (other than the olive oil alas!) necessary to make a decent ratatouille and intend to plant a mini vineyard next year.
I have spent most of my working life in the City or in Financial Services. I also had the good fortune to live and work in Asia and North America.
I am now semi-retired and in many ways I have returned to being that same boy who was so much in awe of the natural world all those decades ago...

My ideal match is a lady who does not spend half her day shopping and the other half on her iPhone catching up with the celebrity gossip. Instead she appreciates the simple enjoyment of lively conversation over a home-made supper prepared with organic home-grown food, the quiet contemplation of the natural world (could be tending the garden, walking in the fells, cycling in the Dales or skiing in the Alps) and the companionship of a man who is deeply in love with her.
She should also be confident among, and enjoy the company of, the animal kingdom. (and not just the cute furry ones, although If you have a 🐕 that's a bonus) If you enjoy playing bridge, chess or board games and listening to music then that will give us something to do when we are not out in the countryside.
When I succeed in my quest of finding my Cunegonde I will commit to loving and cherishing her So I am looking for more than just friendship from my ideal match.
