About him
I've spent a great deal of my life caring for others and that's how I like it. My wife battled cancer for 5 years, father in law came to stay for 2 weeks; ended up staying 17 years and I worked at Manchester Airport guiding people with disabilities through check-in, passport control and onto the aeroplane;
I used to go scuba diving all over the World but an underwater accident put paid to that. Now, I'm happier discovering the World by train and car but would far prefer a lady companion for further discoveries. She need not be a navigator; I've driven around Europe mostly without needing a map. Speaking French and a little German helps.
One of my heroes is Rick Stein even though he does cost me a fortune in buying foodstuffs shown on his travel expeditions. I'm confident enough to try most of his recipes.Just need a companion brave enough to sample my attempts!
I'm an avid reader; Dickens, Hemingway, Bryson and Quentin Letts are among my favourites. Betjeman poetry is so relaxing. My bucket list is topped by Impressionist Art; Monet, Van Gogh,Degas and others; I've seen many in Paris and Amsteram but would love to see many more in Europe and America.
Not many dislikes but loutish, loud behaviour and the onward march of Fast Food are really irritating

Ideally, my companion would like to share my above interests but I appreciate that we are all different. As I age, the more adventurous sports I enjoyed years ago have given way to enjoying more relaxed train travel, cycling on disused railway lines rather than strenuous Lake District hills and eating in nice restaurants rather than cooking on a primitive stove outside a tent.
I'm not a fan of football but do watch occasionally. I've never smoked and find that the smell on people's clothes is really offputting. I watch some tv but not any soaps or "reality" shows; prefer documentaries on wildlife, travel, cookery and current affairs
