About her
I have been lucky enough to spend a third of my adult life living and working overseas in some places not always on the tourist itinerary including: Malawi; The Gambia: Egypt; Latvia; Belarus Ukraine and Switzerland. Always one to seize the opportunities on hand this has resulted in camping and bird watching expeditions, improving my French and Russian along with attempts at learning Arabic (which did my head in) and Chichewa.
Now back in London with its very different entertainments, I have become an opera goer as well as reasonably regularly going to classical concerts. My favourite venue is Kings Place - bit quirkier than the South Bank.
I walk a lot and cycle to work along the Thames Path. Classical music plays an important part in my life. Radio 3 is rarely off. The pleasure of the radio is that you hear music that you might not have bought a ticket for - and then sometimes you do. I play the cello - badly.
I have been fairly successful in last year's New Year's resolution in getting more outdoor weekends away, mostly hill walking. In the summer I completed a 7 day walking tour of the Lakes, much to my satisfaction. Having covered parts of it, The Coast to Coast sounds like a good challenge but perhaps a companion would be nice this time? I joined an outdoor exercise group and did my first (slow) 10 k run in preparation for a trip to the Atlas Mountains. I managed three peaks over 4000m at the beginning of December.
Recent culture includes: the Russian Revolution, Matisse, Charles I at the RA; the Scythians; Cezanne's Portraits; Red Star over Russia, Modigliani and Picasso at Tate Modern; La Tragedie de Carmen at Wilton's; Sicilian Vespers at RoH and Satyagraha at the ENO.
For me life is not just pleasures. I know I'm unrealistic, but I am trying to leave the world a better place and I'm lucky to have a career that allows me to indulge in this, often frustrating, delusion.
About her ideal match
I am looking for a true partnership with someone with whom I can share some of my enthusiasms. It would be wonderful to find someone who enjoyed the physicality of a weekend of hill walking and maybe even camping. Mostly it's one of the national parks but I wouldn't say no to further afield.
I want to share the some of the things that give me so much pleasure such as: a home cooked meal, a concert that stirs my soul, an uplifting view after a walk, the beauty (and science) of nature. I want my partner to be able share whatever it is that similarly moves him.
Although I have many interests, am not without friends and am comfortable by myself, I'm looking for a partner. Like all of us I am hoping to find someone who is kind and supportive and I hope that I can offer the same but this is hardly something that can be determined from an internet profile. A bit of romance wouldn't go amiss too.
And for the boring stuff. I am not looking for a wealthy man, after all I aspire to a relationship between equals, but solvency would be helpful. I am fit and value both exercise and a good diet (not fads though) and would expect a partner to take similar care of themselves.
If you understand the rules of rugby and are willing to watch women's rugby that would be a bonus. My 20 year old daughter plays for Harlequins.
